Brick sizes UK — measurements and how many bricks per m²

A standard UK brick measures 215mm long, 102.5mm wide and 65mm high. Add a 10mm mortar joint and each brick takes up 225 × 75mm of wall face, which works out at about 60 bricks per square metre for a single-skin wall.

How many bricks in a pack (or pallet)?

Bricks are sold by the pack — the strapped cube delivered on one pallet — and pack size depends on the maker and the range. Packs listed by UK merchants run from about 390 to 730 bricks. Always check the pack size on the product you're ordering.

Worked example: a garden wall

Wall 4m long × 1.8m high = 7.2m².
Single skin at about 60 bricks per m²: 7.2 × 60 = 432 bricks.
Add 5% for cuts and breakages: 432 × 1.05 ≈ 454 bricks.
That's one pack of 495–504, or two packs of a 390-brick range. Double skin (one brick thick) doubles it to about 908.
